The Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica in Italy earns the "European Heritage Label"

Ostia Antica

The European Commission has awarded the prestigious title of "European Heritage Label" to the Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica. The prize, awarded on the initiative of the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, recognizes the site of the ancient port of Rome as a significant role in European history and culture, enhanced by the relaunch program implemented in recent years.

The Archaeological Park of Ostia Antica is one of the autonomous museums established with the second step of the reform promoted by the Minister for Cultural Heritage and Activities and Tourism, Dario Franceschini. It is directed by the archaeologist Mariarosaria Barbera.

The recognition was established in 2013 and has so far awarded 48 European sites. Ostia Antica was chosen together with the other 9 sites for 2020 at the end of a selection procedure that saw independent experts from all over the continent engaged in the evaluation of the applications made by the member states.
